Often, tinnitus and hearing loss go hand in hand.  That has led people to wonder if hearing is the key to curing tinnitus.  If someone is able to hear, will the symptoms of tinnitus go away?

First, you need to understand what will happen when you are fitted with a hearing aid.  This will help your hearing, and the symptoms will get better.  However, they will not go away.  Tinnitus is not exactly a hearing problem.  While it is often accompanied by hearing loss, the root of the problem is not in the ear.  Thus, a hearing aid will not fix tinnitus.

Creating a Distraction

It will help, though.  The reason it will help is it will create a distraction.  Whenever you can hear outside noises, you will be able to distract yourself from the noises inside of your head.  This can be incredibly helpful.

Also, you will get to hear again, which is very important.  When you have tinnitus and hearing loss, you can end up lost in your own world.  You can come out of that world to a degree once you can hear again.  Thus, you get a great deal of relief, even though your tinnitus is still there.

Masking Devices and Hearing Aids

As you can see, this is not about curing tinnitus, but rather, it is about distracting you from realizing what is going on with the tinnitus.  Hearing aids are not the only way this is done.  Masking devices are also used.  Masking devices can be coupled with hearing aids so people can improve their hearing and also mask the tinnitus with pleasant sounds.

This distracts people in two different ways.  One, they get distracted by the outside sounds.  Two, they get distracted by the pleasant sounds that are transmitted from their masking device.  While it is not a cure, it will do a great deal to help those that are suffering from tinnitus.

When people use a masking device, they typically do not use it at all times.  They might turn it on whenever they are trying to sleep, and they also might turn it on whenever they are in a situation where their tinnitus tends to act up.  However, they will most likely not keep it on all day and all night.

Is This the Solution?

The medical community uses masking devices and hearing aids so much that people think that is their only option.  Hearing aids are masking devices are an option, but they are not the only option.

You can also work to rid yourself of tinnitus in other ways.  You can take a holistic approach to get to the root of the issue.  You can use a hearing aid to help with your hearing and try other treatments to help with the tinnitus.

Since hearing loss and tinnitus go hand in hand, treating hearing loss can help with the tinnitus.  However, it is not a cure.  The only way to cure tinnitus is to get to the root of the cause, and in most cases, the cause does not lie in the ear.  Tinnitus is a full body issue, and thus requires a full body treatment. Still, treating hearing loss can help alleviate symptoms and make the tinnitus sufferer feel much better.
