Meniere’s Disease SymptomsMenieres disease symptoms

Meniere’s disease has several symptoms that set it apart from other ailments.  The disease can be incredibly difficult on the sufferer, as all of the symptoms can act up at the same time, making it almost unbearable.

Vertigo

First, people with Meniere’s have vertigo.  Vertigo is an overwhelming feeling of dizziness. When people experience vertigo, it is as if their equilibrium is off.  When the equilibrium is off, the person will feel incredibly nauseous.  It will be hard to walk, and it will feel as if the head is spinning.  This is incredibly uncomfortable.

Tinnitus

Another of the symptoms is tinnitus. Tinnitus is a ringing in the ears that varies in intensity.  The only person that can hear the tinnitus is the sufferer, and the phantom noises can become debilitating.  In many cases, the phantom noises make it difficult for sufferer to hear anything else.

Fullness in the Ears

People with Meniere’s disease also experience fullness in the ears.  This is likely due to the fluid buildup that people with Meniere’s suffer from. The degree of the feeling changes as symptoms get better and worse.

The full feeling is comparable to the feeling of having water in your ears.  When someone has Meniere’s disease, they will feel as if they have water clogged in their ear that they cannot get out.

Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is another symptom, and it can be incredibly serious.  In fact, people with Meniere’s disease will likely end up losing between 50 and 95% of the hearing in the affected ear.  The hearing loss is progressive and it will continue to get worse as the sufferer ages.   In the end, people can end up losing most of their hearing, while still experiencing the ringing in the ears, vertigo and fullness.

Understanding the Symptoms

When people have Meniere’s disease, the symptoms will intensity and then weaken. One might have a very bad episode one day, and then the next day, the symptoms might come on again, but be much weaker.  There is no way to predict how severe symptoms will be.

This makes it very hard for people with Meniere’s disease.  They never know if they are going to have a good day or a bad day.  They could be in the middle of a good day, and then the vertigo will take over or the tinnitus will start.  This can be incredibly frustrating.

The symptoms of Meniere’s disease can have a grave impact on the person’s emotional wellbeing.  It is hard for them to be happy and upbeat whenever they are suffering from the disease.  People end up feeling completely controlled by the disease.  Some people stop living their lives because they feel as if the disease took all of their power.

Because of all of the symptoms of Meniere’s disease, it is incredibly hard to deal with.  The symptoms can come and go at any time, and when they appear, they are hard to control.  It is important that people find ways to deal with the symptoms for their personal health as well as their emotional wellbeing.
